Part One – Downloading and Installing Knight Online

The official website for this version of Knight Online is www.knightonlineworld.com . On the main page you should see a link called “Download Game”. Clicking there will link you to various sites to download the main client. Make sure your computer has the appropriate requirements (http://www.knightonlineworld.com/requirements.php) to run KO properly.

Once you have downloaded it, look for the Knight Online setup program and follow the prompts in the InstallShield Wizard to install it. When it’s fully installed, you should open KO via the Launcher (in the Knight Online folder). This launcher automatically downloads and installs any new patches. If you have problems with automatically downloading the patches, you can manually download them from ftp://download.knightonlineworld.com/knight/upgrade/ . The launcher will close itself after downloading new patches, so you might have to open it again then press on Start to start the game.

Part Two – Creating your Account

Create your Knight Online account at http://www.knightonlineworld.com/register.php . Fill in all the required details, and make sure your email is correct. An email verification will be sent to your supplied email address, which you need to start playing on the account (see the Part Seven if you have problems with email verification). You will need to provide a secret question and answer, which is needed for email and password changes, as well as sealing items (a security feature for Gold Premium users).

Premium or Free2Play?

Knight Online is free to play, however there are optional advantages of paying. You may choose to buy a premium service. There are 3 choices – bronze premium, silver premium, and gold premium. The advantages of these services can be seen here: http://www.knightonlineworld.com/bronze_premium.php. Due to the increasing demand of Knight Online, you may find that servers become full during certain times of the day. Once servers are 80% full, only premium users may log in. Non-premium users will be able to log in when the servers are below 80% capacity. The majority of players on this version of Knight Online are from Turkey, so you might find servers are fuller when it is ‘peak time’ in Turkey.

Part Three – Creating your Character

Choosing your server:

Knight Online has been running since around 2004. There are many servers to choose from, and each is different from the others. Here is the list of servers in this version of KO (oldest to newest):

Ares, Diez, Xigenon, Cypher, Beramus, Olympia, Manes, Edana, Logos, Pathos, Ronark.

Each server differs from the other in terms of market prices, average levels, etc.

For each account, you can have three characters in each different server. There are different ‘sub-servers’ for each server, e.g. Ares1, Ares2, and Ares3. If you create a character on Ares1, you can use it on any of the Ares servers. But you cannot use it on Diez, etc. If your friend is on Ares1 and you are on Ares2, you cannot trade or see them ingame, but you CAN talk to them via clan or ally chat if you are in the same clan or confederacy.

Choosing your nation:

There are two nations, or races, in Knight Online. El Morad (a.k.a. Humans), and Karus (a.k.a. ‘orcs’). These nations fight against each other in wars and Ardream/Ronark Land. These nations do not have many common peaceful areas apart from Moradon, so if you want to level up with a friend you should go in the same nation. The balance between the number and supremacy of the two nations varies from server to server.

Apart from the more obvious cosmetic differences, there are some differences in gender class choice as well. El Morad has the male Barbarian, which can only be a warrior; the normal El Morad male, which can choose any class; and the female El Morad, which can also choose any class. Karus on the other hand, has the male Arch Tuarek, which can only be a warrior; the male Tuarek, which can be a priest or rogue; the male Wrinkle Tuarek, which can only be a mage; and the Puri Tuarek, which can only be a priest or mage.

Choosing your Class (brief descriptions):

- Warrior: a melee fighter, can be used for tanking. Generally has more health and strength than other classes.
- Rogue: you can choose to be an assassin using daggers, or an archer using a bow. Rogues generally have less health and defense than warriors but can inflict critical damage.
- Magician: a ranged fighter using magic skills. Generally has less health and defense but can inflict lots of damage from far away. Its magic skills may have lasting effects (eg. Slowing down, burning)
- Priest: can be used for support using healing and buffing skills, but can also fight depending on how you build it.

All classes are fairly well balanced and, depending on how you raise them, do not have many limitations. For example, you may choose to make a mage that attacks from close-range, stunning your enemies repeatedly. You may choose to make a battle priest that has very little health and defense but a lot of power. It is all up to you.

--Continued in next post---

Choosing your stats:

Each time you increase a level, you will gain 3 stat points, and more when you are 60+. Press u to open character window, then press the “P” sign next to a stat to raise a point in it. Be careful when adding points, as you have to pay to reskill or restat, and that costs more depending on how high your level is.

- Warriors: warriors usually only raise Strength and Health. For the lowest grade armors, only Strength is required.
- Rogues: rogues usually only raise Dexterity and Health. For the lowest grade armors, only Dexterity is required.
- Magicians: mages usually only raise Intelligence and Magic Power, and sometimes Health. Intelligence mainly affects the amount of mana you have, whilst magic power primarily affects your damage.
- Priests: priests usually only raise Intelligence and Strength, but sometimes are known to raise points in Health later on.

For all the classes, their two main stats are required to use their armors. Some players create ‘paper’ characters, which substitute better armors and defense to raise more in another stat. For example, a ‘paper priest’ or battle priest (BP) usually raises just enough intelligence to wear +7 of the lowest-grade armor, and puts most of the rest into Strength.

Choosing your skills (Note: names may be slightly different depending on your nation):

Each time you level you will receive two skill points. Press k to open the Skills window, and press the “P” sign next to a skill to raise a point in it. You can see what skills you gain from increasing points in each skill area.

A complete summary of skills can be found at http://knightonline.e-games.com.my/skills_cleric_basic.asp (please note Malaysian KO (MYKO) may have slightly different skills).

- Warriors: can choose to raise points in Attack, Defense, or Berserking. Most warriors will raise skill points in Attack first, then Defense. Raising attack gives you the primary fighting skills such as cleave, sword dancing, etc. Raising points in Defense increases your defense, sometimes only when you use a shield. Berserking has different skills such as exchanging mana for HP.
- Rogues: usually only raise points in either Archery or Assassin first, and then secondarily Explore.
- Magicians: can choose to raise points in Flame, Glacier, or Lightning. Flame apparently does more damage, glacier may freeze enemies, and lightning may stun enemies. Which is better is debatable.
- Priests: can choose to raise points in Heal, Aura (buffing), or Holy Spirit (debuffing/rezzing).

All characters can only raise skills in ‘Basic Skills’ first, and when they are level 10 they can go to the NPC at the side of Moradon (where the guards line up) to get their specialty. Once they have their specialty they can raise points in the other skill areas.

After completing your Master Quest, you gain another skill area called Master which has skills for characters over level 60.

Cosmetics:

At character creation, you can choose between types of hair and faces for your character.

Part Five – Game Interface

This game interface is fairly straightforward.

Part Six – Starting off in Moradon

Once you have logged into your account, created your character, and have finished loading, you will arrive in Moradon. Experiment moving around using the mouse. Moradon is usually crowded with merchanting players who are buying and selling items.

Killing your first worm:

Press i to open your inventory. There should be ten little health pots (hp pots) and a weapon. You can right click on the health pot, or click and drag it, to the skills bar where you can use it quickly with the press of a button. Right clicking on your weapon will put it into your right hand.

Press k to open your skills window. You should have one basic skill. You will gain more skills as you level up. Right click or drag the skill over to the skill bar to get it ready.

Look around. Moradon is set out with a main town, and three gates leading outside. Go through the middle gate. You should see some worms crawling around. To select the nearest worm press z. Press r to start attacking it, and use the appropriate button to use skills that are set on your skill bar.

When the worm is killed, it should show a chest. Right clicking or left clicking on the chest should open a small loot window, where you will see items that the monster dropped. The item that looks somewhat like a potato are Noahs, which is the currency in KO. Pressing on the item in the loot window will pick it up. Make sure your weight capacity (shown in inventory) is enough, and that your inventory has space to loot items.

To delete any unwanted items, drag it over to the red box in your inventory, and it will ask you if you want to delete it. You will find an assortment of items off monsters, or you can buy and sell to NPCs or players. In towns you will find NPCs. To select them, just left click on them or press b to select the nearest NPC. Then right click on them, and then will let you trade.

Merchanting:

Players that have a little merchant stall in front of them are selling items. You can see a preview of some items they sell above their head as you walk by them. If you select and then right click on them, you can see the prices for the items. Simply drag it into your inventory if you wish to buy it.

If you want to merchant items to another player, type /merchant which will set up your merchant box. If you drag your items into the merchant section of the window, it will ask you for the price of the item.

Talking:

To talk to another player just press enter and start typing. There are different types of talking, normal, party, shout, clan, ally, pm, etc. Pressing the appropriate tab in the chat bar will let you talk to your clan or party or whoever. To send someone a private message, type /pm [playersname], and a little window should pop up.

Parties:

Exping and PvPing can be much easier if you have a party. This way you work together in a team, combining your specialties for more efficient leveling. If you receive a party invitation, you can either accept or reject it. To invite a player, click on them and press the ‘invite character’ button in the bottom-left corner of the screen. They will either accept or reject your offer, and if they accept then you become a party leader. Only party leaders can invite or kick players from the party.

Part Seven – Quests

Throughout the game there are several quests you can complete as you level. These may offer experience, money, or items as rewards. Often they involve killing a number of monsters to complete the quest.

Pressing f10 and going to the Quests (Storyline?) tab will show you quests you can complete, and where to find the NPCs that hand them out. There are several guides online that can help you complete these quests.

Part Ten – Reporting Cheaters

Sad as it is, there are a number of players who feel the need to cheat and disadvantage other players. There are ways to help stop hackers and cheaters, and the more we work together against them, the better off we are. Please remember even if you party with a third-party program user/hacker, you will also be banned. Here is a guide to help you spot cheaters: http://forum.knightonlineworld.com/forum_e...showtopic=86616 . And a guide to help you prevent getting scammed: http://forum.knightonlineworld.com/forum_e...showtopic=83405 .

If you do see a hacker, please report them. Press the minus button “ – “ on your numpad to take a .ksc screenshot. This ksc file will be put in your Knight Online folder. Then go to www.knightonlineworld.com and login to submit a cheater report. There you will be asked to upload your ksc file.

Preventing Hacks:

NEVER give your account details to people you don’t fully trust. The anonymity of the internet can be a deceitful tool when it comes to scamming. Remember that the KO admin will NEVER ask for your password or account details, as they already have them. Do not reply to any spoof emails, or open any attachments in suspicious emails.

Do regular scans of your computer to look for viruses and keyloggers. Do not go to any hack sites, or download any hack programs, as they usually have viruses in them (and they’re illegal anyway).

Be careful when lending items to other players you don’t know, for there are too many players who have been scammed before.
